Tldraw Slide Board user guide

1. Install and open
- Install Tldraw Slide Board from its Chrome Web Store listing.
- Optionally pin it from Chrome’s Extensions menu for easier access.
- Select the extension icon. Tldraw Slide Board opens in Chrome’s side panel for the current window.
Local boards do not require a Google account. Google authorization is requested only when you enable optional Drive sync.
2. Create and edit a board
- Select New board (the plus icon) at the upper right of the board list.
- A new board named “Untitled board” is created and opened immediately.
- Use tldraw’s canvas tools to add freehand drawings, shapes, arrows, text, notes, and other supported content.
- Select the save icon in the top bar to save immediately. Edits are also saved about every three seconds, with another attempt when you return to the list, hide the panel, or leave the page.
- Select the back arrow at the upper left to return to the board list.
If Save failed appears, keep the editor open and select Retry. Do not uninstall the extension or clear browsing data until the board is saved or you have created an export backup.
3. Browse by date and manage boards
- Boards are shown under their creation date. Select the date area at the top to open the calendar.
- Use the previous month, next month, and Today controls to browse. A marker under a date means that date has at least one board.
- Select a board in the list to open it again.
- Hover over a board and select the pencil icon to Rename it.
- Select the trash icon and confirm to delete a board. If cloud sync is enabled, the deletion is queued for propagation to your other devices.
Create a full export before deleting important boards. There is no local recycle bin after you confirm deletion.
4. Export and import
Export every board
Select Export all (the download icon). Chrome downloads a file named like tldraw-slide-board-2026-08-19.json containing all board metadata and snapshots.
Treat the export as private content. Anyone who can read the file may be able to see the boards inside it.
Merge an import
- Select Import (the upload icon).
- Select Merge import.
- Choose a JSON file previously exported by Tldraw Slide Board.
The extension validates the file before writing. Valid boards are added to the existing library; an imported board with the same board ID updates that board.
Overwrite with an import
- Select Import.
- Select Overwrite import.
- Read and accept the confirmation, then choose the JSON file.
The full file is validated first. A successful overwrite replaces every local board, so export the current library beforehand. If cloud sync is enabled, the imported state is also queued for synchronization.
5. Connect Google Drive
- Select the cloud icon at the upper right of the board list to open Google Drive sync.
- Read the notice: boards will be stored in your private Google Drive application-data folder and are not end-to-end encrypted.
- Select Connect Google Drive.
- Choose a Google account on Google’s consent page and grant access to the application-data folder.
- Wait for the state to progress from Connecting/Initializing to Up to date. The first connection uploads local boards and merges any existing extension data in that account.
The requested OAuth scope is drive.appdata. It does not grant access to your normal Drive file list. The extension does not read browsing history or the content of the current website.
If Google says that the app is being tested, only accounts listed as test users can continue. Before a public release, the developer must complete the OAuth consent configuration and use the appropriate production publishing status.
6. Enable two-way sync on another device
- Install the same store version on another device or Chrome profile.
- Sign in with the same Google account.
- Open the cloud panel, select Connect Google Drive, and authorize access.
- Wait for Up to date, then compare the dates and board lists on both devices.
- Edit and save a board on either device. The extension queues the change; the other installation merges it during its next sync.
While the side panel is open, the extension normally checks about every 20 seconds, and a local save schedules a faster attempt. A background attempt is also scheduled about once per minute. Chrome may suspend its service worker, a device may be offline, or an API may apply quotas, so these timings are not guarantees. Use Sync now when you need an immediate check.
7. Work offline and understand conflicts
- You can continue to create and edit local boards without a network connection.
- Saved changes remain in a local pending queue and are retried after connectivity returns.
- Changes to different boards or different records are merged.
- If two devices concurrently change the same record, vector clocks and a stable deterministic rule choose the converged result.
- The non-selected record version is shown in Conflict history. Selecting Restore turns that record version into a new change and syncs it. It is not a one-click rollback of the entire board.
Tldraw Slide Board is not a real-time multi-user collaboration service. Do not rely on it for live cursors, simultaneous team editing, or strict transactional locking.
8. Cloud panel controls
- Last sync: the last time this installation completed a sync successfully.
- Pending: locally queued changes still waiting to be processed.
- Conflicts: saved record-level conflict-history entries.
- Sync now: immediately attempts to push and pull changes.
- Disconnect: stops sync on this installation and clears Chrome’s cached authorization tokens. Local boards and Drive data remain.
- Delete cloud data: deletes Tldraw Slide Board replica files from the Google account’s
appDataFolder, clears sync state on this installation, and disconnects. Local boards remain.
To stop cloud sync permanently on every device, first select Disconnect on the other devices, then select Delete cloud data on one device. Otherwise, another installation that remains connected may upload data again.
9. Common sync errors
403 access_denied
Likely causes include:
- the OAuth app is still in testing and the current account is not an allowed test user;
- the OAuth client is bound to a different extension ID; or
- the user or organization administrator denied access.
Use the intended account, confirm the developer’s OAuth configuration, and reconnect.
Google Drive API has not been used ... or it is disabled
The developer must enable Google Drive API in the same Google Cloud project as the OAuth client. After enabling it, wait several minutes and select Sync now or reconnect.
Sign-in required or 401
Open the cloud panel, disconnect, and connect again. If the problem continues, remove the authorization from Google Account third-party connections and retry.
Offline or network error
Confirm that the network and firewall allow Google APIs, then select Sync now. A single network failure does not automatically delete local boards.
10. Delete data and uninstall
Delete local boards only
Delete boards individually in the list, or replace the full library with a validated overwrite import. Export a backup first.
Delete Drive data
Open the cloud panel, select Delete cloud data, and confirm. This does not delete local boards.
Revoke Google authorization
Select Disconnect in the extension. You can also remove Tldraw Slide Board from Google Account third-party connections. Revoking authorization alone does not delete existing local or cloud boards.
Uninstall
Export first if you want to keep your content. If you also want to remove Drive data, use Delete cloud data before uninstalling. Uninstalling removes the local extension and its local storage, but it does not automatically delete replicas from Google Drive appDataFolder.
11. Support and privacy
- Privacy policy: Read the English privacy policy

Do not attach OAuth tokens, cookies, passwords, or full exports containing private boards to a public support issue.
